Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)
Follicular unit transplantation is a surgical technique that continues the modern emphasis on achieving a “natural” look from hair transplants. This is the most common procedure in which small clusters of hairs or ‘follicular units’ are removed from the donor area of hair in a strip, and inserted into the bald area. These are naturally occurring units which if transplanted well, will replicate this natural growth in the recipient area of the scalp. The Follicular Unit Transplant Procedure
The surgery is performed under a local anesthetic. The hair in the area where the units will be removed will be trimmed to enable easier access. The surgeon will then remove these hairs one by one. Your surgeon will use a microscope while doing so to prevent the risk of damage to the hair follicles. These units are removed in strips for micro-dissection before implantation. The strip is removed from the centre of the donor area which enables the surgeon to obtain a large amount for transplanting. He will then inject an anesthetic into the recipient area (bald area of your scalp) and will use a specially designed ‘micro-needle to insert the follicular units into the scalp. These hairs will then grow as per usual.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)
Follicular Unit Extraction is a way of obtaining donor hair for Follicular Unit Transplantation , where individual follicular units are harvested directly from the donor area, without the need for a linear incision. In this hair restoration procedure, a 1-mm punch is used to make a small circular incision in the skin around the upper part of the follicular unit, which is then extracted directly from the scalp. FUE takes longer and is more expensive than FUT. Several sessions of FUE are needed in order to achieve a result whereas a result can be obtained in a single FUT session. It takes at least 6 to 7 months to obtain expected result.

The Combination of FUT & FUE Procedure
